Prof. Dr. Melek İşinibilir Okyar, Dean of Istanbul University Faculty of Aquatic Sciences, said that mucilage was effective in the observation of compass jellyfish in Izmit Bay.
Okyar made statements to the AA correspondent about the compass jellyfish recorded by underwater imaging director and documentary producer Tahsin Ceylan during his dive in the Gulf of Izmit.
Explaining that the compass jellyfish, which originates from the Atlantic, is a species also seen in the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas, Okyar noted that this species was first observed in Marmara in 2000 in the Gulf of Erdek and since then in the Marmara Sea, especially in coastal areas.
