I recently purchased the Merrell Oakcreek Mid Waterproof hiking shoes and took them on an 8 mile hike at Mt. Woodson. My husband and I both found them to be incredibly comfortable and sturdy, especially while climbing.
The ankle support on these shoes is impressive, which came in handy on the steep descent that caused my feet to slide forward. Despite the discomfort, I was happy to note that my ankles felt supported and secure.
While I would consider these shoes more of an entry-level hiking shoe, they do the job well and kept my feet and ankles safe throughout the hike. I gave them a solid 4 rating.
I purchased several pairs for myself and others, and we all appreciate how comfortable and supportive they are. I even walked 100 miles in them in just one month while walking my dog, and they held up incredibly well.
These shoes offer excellent lightweight support and have a great tread pattern that grips a variety of surfaces with ease. Plus, the laces are of excellent quality and hold up well over time.
The heel on these shoes rolls forward seamlessly, making walking and hiking comfortable and effortless. Ive also found that the tread wear is minimal, even after 100 miles of use.
Unfortunately, I did experience a leak in the waterproofing layer around the toe box when I stepped in a shallow puddle for the first time.
It was an instant inundation, and I was disappointed to find that my TEX membrane was already leaking after only 100 miles of use.
While the tread pattern on these shoes works well for hiking, it does tend to pick up a lot of dirt and debris, which can be a bit of a hassle when bringing them into the house.
Overall, Im very happy with these shoes, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and supportive hiking shoe.
