Why do so many people dislike Mark Cuban?
A lot of his wealth was generated through selling broadcast.com which was essentially radio via the internet. He sold the company to Yahoo, which ultimately wrote down the acquisition to close to nothing after just 18 months. Yahoo is known for making a series of terrible investments and acquisitions in the past. Some people might argue that he effectively conned Yahoo into purchasing a terrible business.
Mark Cuban was named in a lawsuit that alleged Voyager Digital was a Ponzi scheme. Cuban promoted Voyager, and Voyager even sponsored his team, the Mavericks.
Cuban invested in Dogecoin.
The SEC filed a civil suit against Cuban in 2008 for insider trading of shares of Mamma.com, which was ultimately dismissed by the court. The SEC appealed, and a federal jury ruled in favor of Cuban.
In June, Cuban argued that companies like Target and Bud Light going woke was just good business. However, the data does not seem to support this argument.
For all these reasons, and more, some people would argue that his insight is does not add much value to conversations about current affairs.
