Wealthy Americans are flocking to the dollar store!
There has been a 4% increase in the share of people making over $100,000 to the dollar store.
Six figure households are 15% more likely to shop at the dollar store than last year. The rate has increased from 39% to 45%.
There used to be a stigma around shopping at the dollar store but that has largely gone away as people search for good deals despite inflation.
Aldi is expanding into more prosperous areas. It plans to add 120 new US locations this year. Last year, it either opened or remodeled 139 stores. 9.4 million new US customers visited in 2022.
Social media is playing a part in making dollar and discount stores cool.
Aldi is similarly seeing an increase in high income shoppers.
