Good Example

Awhile back brentalfloss held an E-Bay auction in which the winner would receive a custom video & song about any topic he or she wanted. I'm a huge fan of his work so I decided to bid. I didn't really think I'd win, but it turns out that I did.

A lot of people asked why I wanted a song about myself. The simple answer is that it's probably just narcissism, but I always thought it would be cool to have a song written for me. Well I'm not a musician, I'm not famous (not even internet famous), so I figured I was probably never going to do something that would inspire someone to write a song. If I ever wanted it done, this seemed like my best chance.

Brent asked me to write down 50 or so facts about myself, so he could begin mulling over ideas for the song. At first I was wanting an 80's rock type of tune (think 'Eye Of The Tiger' or 'Heart's On Fire'), but I mentioned that a rap would be ok as well.

When Brent got the list he wrote back shortly after saying that I seemed to be a pretty 'good example'. He probably thought I was a "Dudley Do Right" type of guy (that's very debatable). So as a joke he thought it would be funny to write a rap with some offensive language in which he explained why I'm a 'good example'.

I really wanted to go the 80's rock direction, but I thought the idea was funny. I also trusted that Brent would come up with something good. I think one other thing I mentioned to him was that I wanted something I could play on my way to my basketball games. Something that would help get the old adrenaline going & pump me up.

In the end I was thrilled with the results, and I'm very happy I made that bid on E-Bay. I hope you get a laugh out of the final product. If it helps, try imagining a white nerdy guy rapping along to this in his car...because I do that about once a week...on my way to play basketball.
