Masada, the fortress of King Herod, is the last bastion of Jewish sovereignty opposing the Roman Empire around 66 - 73 AD. This site is where Jewish men decided it was better to die free than to be slaves. Even today Israeli paratroopers come here to swear an oath for service, stating that “Masada Shall Never Fall Again”, meaning they will fight to see that Israel shall never be exiled from their land again. Their commitment is based upon the eternal land covenant (brit olam) decreed by the Almighty in Gen. 17:7,8 to Abraham, sworn also with Isaac and confirmed with Jacob.
