On June 18, 2023, a five-person submersible operated by OceanGate Expeditions went missing while on a dive to the wreck of the Titanic. The submersible, called Titan, was carrying Hamish Harding, a British billionaire and adventurer; Shahzada Dawood, a Pakistani-British businessman and his son, Suleman; Stockton Rush, chief executive and founder of OceanGate Expeditions; and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, a French submersible pilot.

The submersible lost contact with the surface about 900 miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, at a depth of about 13,000 feet. The U.S. Coast Guard and Canadian authorities have been searching for the submersible, but as of June 21, it has not been found.
