Equipment:
Padel racket: Obtain a padel racket, which is similar to a tennis racket but with a solid surface and no strings.
Padel balls: Use padel-specific balls, which are similar to tennis balls but slightly smaller and have less pressure.
Court:
Find a padel court: Locate a padel court in your area. Padel courts are typically smaller than tennis courts and have glass walls on three sides.
Court layout: The court is divided into two halves by a net, and there is a service box on each side. The glass walls are considered in play, so the ball can bounce off them.
Scoring:
Padel follows the same scoring system as tennis. The scoring terms are "love" (0 points), "15," "30," "40," and "game." The first player/team to win six games, with a minimum lead of two games, wins the set. Usually, matches are best of three sets.
Serving:
The server must stand behind the baseline and underhand serve the ball diagonally into the opposite service box.
The serve must be hit below the waist level and hit the ball after one bounce.
The ball must be served into the opposite service box, clearing the net and landing within the boundaries.
Gameplay:
After the serve, the ball is played similarly to tennis, with the exception that the ball can bounce off the walls.
Players must allow the ball to bounce once on their side before returning it.
The ball can be hit before it bounces, but it must clear the net and land within the boundaries of the opponent's court.
Players can hit the ball off the walls to keep it in play, providing additional strategic opportunities.
The ball can be volleyed (hit before it bounces) or played off the bounce.
The game continues until one team fails to return the ball within the boundaries or hits it out of bounds.
Scoring Points:
Points are awarded when a player/team fails to return the ball or hits it out of bounds.
If the ball hits the net and lands within the opponent's court, a "let" is played, and the serve is retaken without losing a point.
Court Etiquette:
Respect your opponent: Play in a fair and sportsmanlike manner, treating your opponents with respect.
Safety: Be cautious when near the glass walls to avoid collisions or accidents.
Communication: Maintain clear communication with your partner during the game to avoid confusion and improve teamwork.
Remember, practice is key to improving your padel skills. Enjoy the game and have fun!
