The spherical Earth model postulates that the observed motion of heavenly bodies is due to the Earth's rotation. The Earth's axis of rotation is postulated to pass through Polaris, the North Star, which is the fixed point in the Northern sky about which other stars appear to rotate. The amount of rotation is said to be approximately 15 degrees in one hour. This is determined by dividing the number of degrees in one full rotation (360) by the number of hours in one day. We see that 360 degrees/24 hr = 15 degrees per hour.
