It's true, this is the sort of reality many child victims of abuse and exploitation go on to face.
Again, perhaps all too often we're a society in denial that these sorts of reactions to tragic events can occur. Maybe the woman I'd asked for help had mental health problems or something, who knows?

Either way, my kidnapping certainly wasn't the last time I'd go on to experience being in some seriously dodgy situation as a runaway child and hoping that somebody would help me when I called out to escape sadists and predators.

This is a reminded for those that genuinely seek the protection and prosperity of children and young people to never carry on walking when they wonder if they should turn their heads.

You just never know if that child shouting for help out of the window is a child like I was, in need of someone outside to call the police, but no-one ever did and I was lucky to finally escape from there and jump onto a train back into the centre of London.

It may not be the reality of every child, but it can be the reality of a child like I was, and there's many of us. #bethechange
