Thanks to John for recording this flight for me. Here is a link to his YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/JohnVH541
Speaking of John, we recently recorded some awesome flights with his new Avios MiG-17 90mm EDF Jet. Look at his channel to see footage of that big beautiful RC Plane!
Things to keep in mind before your E-flite Viper Jet Maiden:
GBLynden's Flight Radio Settings:
- Elevator: 100% rates with 30% Expo (Required to get in the air)
- Rudder: 100% rates with 30% Expo
- Ailerons: 60% rates with 30% Expo (You could go higher on rates)
Other Notes:
- Adjust the nose wheel, if needed. Mine wouldn't taxi straight
- Mechanically level or add a tiny amount of elevator up
E-flite Viper Jet Review Notes:
Pros:
- A nicely priced BNF 6S EDF Jet
- Bolts together and doesn't require glue
- Looks better in person, though I still wish they would have picked a different scheme for this jet
- Easy to see in the air
- Plenty of speed for a Beginner EDF Jet
- Lands slow and gentle with full flaps
Cons:
- The canopy arrived scuffed
- They don't provide any tools like Freewing EDF Jets to help snake through wires or for installing hex bolts.
- Connecting all of the wires through the fuse was not easy, so I am glad I had the CrewZinn stand to help.
For those of you wondering, this is a rebranded FMS Super Viper 70mm EDF Jet.
This is how Horizon Hobby describe this E-flite 70mm EDF Jet:
"The E-flite Viper 70mm EDF is the perfect first high-performance jet that delivers all the essentials including incredible speed, vertical performance and aerobatic capability while also being easy to take off and land on a variety of surfaces.
The Viper was designed to deliver fighter-jet looks and performance with low-wing sport airplane stability so more pilots could enjoy flying a jet. The E-flite Viper 70mm EDF is true-to-form both in its appearance and how it delivers a high-performance jet experience like no other, whether you’ve flown many jets before or even if it’s your first jet model ever. It delivers incredible speed, vertical performance and aerobatic capability while also being easy to take off and land–especially when it’s equipped with exclusive AS3X and SAFE Select technologies.
The Viper 70mm EDF offers smooth, sport airplane-like handling plus incredible performance and aerobatic capability that makes it the perfect choice for experienced and first-time jet pilots alike. At its core is a 6S-compatible brushless motor and 70-amp ESC that are matched to a 12-blade fan to deliver an abundance of speed, thrust and a turbine-like sound. Functional, factory-installed flaps and electric retracts are included to provide the best jet experience and the widest flight envelope possible. Assembly is fast and simple with a one-piece wing and stabilizers that bolt into place–no glue required. Digital, metal-geared servos and ball-link equipped linkages provide precise control, and the lightweight yet strong EPO airframe adds to the durability and precision. But what truly sets the Viper 70mm EDF apart, and helps make it the BEST choice for a first jet model, is how easy it is to take off, fly and land."
This Trainer EDF Jet is so awesome that I am strongly considering getting myself the E-flite F-16 Thunderbirds 70mm EDF with suspension or possibly the E-flite F-4 Phantom II 80mm EDF Jet. I have developed a need for speed, so the E-flite V900 might be an option to satisfy getting in that speed fix. The E-flite Havoc Xe 80mm EDF Jet is also on my radar, though I likely won't get it right away, if I do.
I do also want to say that it is awesome to be able to have a jet like this AND my amazing new Freewing A-4 Skyhawk 80mm EDF Jet. What a great time it is to be into RC Jets!
