Driving Tour of the Big Horns Part 5

Exiting the Big Horn Mountains westward on US 14, we pass through spectacular Shell Canyon. The video starts at 7200 ft, following Shell Creek, and descends to near 4000 ft as we approach the Big Horn River valley. in the Wyoming Basin.

The Wyoming Basin in the northern part of the state lies between the Big Horn Mts to the east, and the Absaroka Range to the west. It is a drier region that does not receive moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and receives a limited amount of moisture from the Pacific due to the rain shadow effect.
