Dr. Mathew Raphael Johnson discusses Johann Fichte. Johann Gottlieb Fichte (1762-1814) was a seminal figure in both German idealism and German nationalism. In today’s talk, the topic is his (1800) The Closed Commercial State. This was Fichte’s attempt to challenge the liberal imperialism of the British empire and the usury it used to maintain control both at home and abroad. It is an early National Socialist attempt to regulate the chaos and violence of liberal capitalism, which is just usury and rent seeking with a national and social conception of the state.
