How to Locate Fall Crappie (Lew's Reel Unboxing)

During the fall, crappie transition from shallower pieces of cover to deeper structural contours. These contours are a transition from sand, rock, or gravel into mud, muck or silt. The soft bottom (mud, muck or silt) will hold insect larva which crappie will feed on throughout the fall and winter months. The transition between hard and soft bottom areas will hold baitfish as well. An angler can use fishing sonar (down imaging and side imaging) to find these structural transitions and locate large schools of crappie in the fall.
