F*** Calculus

We teach kids advanced mathematics most of them will never use, but we don't prepare them to navigate the rough social waters that all humans have to navigate, instead leaving them entirely, and inappropriately, to their own devices. By no means am I saying calculus is useless; what I *am saying is that prioritizing it over basic life skills - especially in high school - is asinine, and the fact that so many of us don't think it's asinine is the bellwether of a skewed and warped perspective on a system of schooling that hasn't been questioned or re-evaluated in far too long.
