EP.17 of 30 day challenge. These are my top 5 baits, lures, and jigs for catching crappie in the fall. Fishing for crappie in the fall is the best time, besides in the spring, to find fish. These crappie are schooled up on deeper ledges and drop-offs near winter basins. Find the hard bottom and soft bottom structure transition on the lake bottom and you will find crappie. They push out to these areas because bait fish, like minnows, have moved out to deeper water, and because oxygen levels are mixed through out the water column. When oxygen levels rise and become mixed in the water column, crappie's metabolism will increase triggering the fall bite.
