David Feldman and Luis Palomino on BKFC 45 Controversial Post-Fight Comments

Luis Palomino retained his lightweight gold against James Lilley in the BKFC 45 main event.

During his in-ring interview, Palomino apologized to the fans in attendance and said he can bang a lot harder than that. He went on to explain that in order to really put himself out there and risk himself in a barnburner bout, Palomino needs a big name next.

The number one ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the company called out Eddie Alvarez who was in the stands and actually predicted Lilley would become the new champ.

During the BKFC 45 post-event press conference, in regards to Palomino’s comments about his reserved approach in the ring, Feldman said, “The main event robbed us tonight. To tell the fans around the world that he played it safe tonight is unacceptable for this company. It’s not something that we like and it’s not something that we’re proud of.”

“We want our fighters to go out there and fight their ******* off and give it all in that ring, which I ask everybody every night to do that. When you’re the champion and you’re going to say that you’re going to play it safe so you can get a big fight, I don’t think anyone’s begging to see him fight a big fight after he just played it safe.”

Responding to Feldman’s comments and adding further context to what he said inside the ring, Palomino said, “That’s not really what I meant. Look, I’m the champion. So if anybody’s going to have to take a risk here, it’s going to be the challenger. That’s the way that this game works.”

“We have to take into consideration that there hasn’t been any champion in BKFC history that has defended more than three times. I just doubled that tonight. You know what I mean? I’m the first and only two-weight division undefeated champion. There is none. I’m the number 1 pound-for-pound king of the organization.”

Palomino discussed how he was scheduled to fight Austin Trout and immersed himself deeply into a multi-month camp for the Southpaw former gloved boxing world champion.

Then Palomino described how that all changed in three weeks and while he respects Lilley’s high pedigree in the sport, he couldn’t mask his frustration at the combat cache of his opponent changing as well.

In summation, Palomino stated, “So it’s like if you want a big cheque in this house, you got to go through me. It don’t have to be no title fight, man. I’ll fight anybody, any weight class, but I need a big name. You give me a big name, I’ll put it all on the line. Because then that name is worthy of me taking that chance.”
