Musk's Neuralink is developing an implant called N1 that will insert a device connected to the brain with over a thousand electrodes.

Neuralink has failed on at least four occasions to get FDA approval. It's reported that some of the FDA safety concerns involve the device's lithium battery, the possibility of the implants and wires migrating within the brain, and the challenge of safely extracting the device without damaging brain tissue.
