A woman, draped in a beige robe, firmly held a sign declaiming "Abolish one-party tyranny, embrace multi-party system". Accompanying this proclamation was another sign, bearing the assertive declaration, "Democratic revolution begins, #WindThunder #NOW Revolution". The woman was traced back to a You tube and Twitter handle "Hobbie Septem" and was identified as a supporter of a potent protest essay penned by the Chinese writer Zhang Sheng. Zhang had, on June 1st, released an expansive 170,000-word critique of China's one-party rule which subsequently attracted a broad readership. The slogans borne by this woman quickly became focal points in news narratives and internet chatter.
