➡️ What is Rigid Bronchoscopy?
In general, a bronchoscopy is a procedure where a tube, known as a bronchoscope, is inserted into the airways of the lungs. It contains a camera and a light source that allows the physician or user to be able to view the airways. This process can be used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

➡️ Types of Bronchoscopes:
1. Flexible bronchoscopes
2. Rigid bronchoscope

➡️ Explanation
A rigid bronchoscope is typically used during surgical procedures and thus for therapeutic purposes. A flexible bronchoscope, on the other hand, is more maneuverable which makes it better for diagnostic purposes. This is relevant in respiratory care because a Respiratory Therapist is usually required to be present in order to assist with the procedure and ensure that all tools and equipment are accessible and functioning properly. They also help monitor the patient's vital signs, especially their oxygenation status, while also helping to keep them in stable condition throughout the procedure.
