Turns out the controller had a defective component and was unable to bind to the O2. GDU was helpful though. I sent it in (had to pay shipping one way) and they fixed issue by binding a new controller and as a bonus send an extra battery! So I do feel satisfied even though I had to pay around $18 for shipping since I got an extra battery out of it.
