Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecareathome.com, where we provide tailor-made solutions for long-term ventilated adults and children with tracheostomies. And where we also provide tailor-made solutions for hospitals and intensive care units to save money whilst providing quality care.
I have a question from a reader who says, “My 47-year old husband is in ICU with muscular dystrophy. He’s been on BiPAP at home, but he now got admitted into ICU with a collapsed lung/pneumonia and he had difficulties coming off the ventilator after he had a breathing tube. So, he ended up with a tracheostomy. As part of his 5-month ICU stay, he also ended up in kidney failure and he’s now needing dialysis three times a day. Can Intensive Care at Home help with getting my husband home? We are in Sydney, Australia.”
So that’s a great question. Yes, we are able to take your husband home, especially now with NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) funding you should contact us at intensivecareathome.com, call us on our Australian number, and then we can map out the next steps.
But to look at the practicalities, your husband, in order to leave ICU needs Intensive Care nurses 24-hours a day. And this is certainly something that we can provide here at Intensive Care at Home and including the dialysis. So, next step really is for you to contact us so we can help you with the funding for the NDIS and also set up the home and the home care nursing. Create a team and get your husband home safely. I’m sure he would be pretty depressed after five months in ICU and you should reach out as quickly as possible. So I hope that helps.
If you have a loved one in intensive care, especially on ventilation, tracheostomy, but also if you are needing Home TPN, if you are looking for non-invasive ventilation such as BiPAP, CPAP, we can help with that as well with 24-hour intensive care nursing instead of intensive care. Go to intensivecareathome.com. Call us on one of the numbers on the top of our website, or send us an email to [email protected].
Now also have a look at our membership for families in intensive care at intensivecaresupport.org.
If you need a medical record review for your loved one or for yourself in intensive care or after intensive care, please contact us as well and we can help you with a medical record review.
