Joe Biden's recently tweeted, "Congress needs to step up and pass common-sense gun safety laws to protect our kids and educators. Arming teachers is not the answer. Banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and ensuring extensive background checks are part of the answer."

Common sense dictates that individuals should have the means to protect themselves when their lives are threatened.

Common sense says If it makes sense for someone to have a gun in their home for self-defense, why wouldn't it make sense for a teacher to have something to protect their students from a school shooter?

Common sense says Banning specific types of guns won't stop criminals, as they don't follow laws anyway.

Common sense says that banning AR-15s and implementing extensive background checks are not the solutions.

Background checks won't prevent mass shootings either. The focus should be on stopping the threat when it appears, rather than restricting law-abiding citizens.

It's time to have a real conversation about protecting lives and exploring new approaches instead of repeating ineffective gun control measures.
