शादी, तलाक़, उत्तराधिकार और गोद लेने के मामलों में भारत में विभिन्न समुदायों में उनके धर्म, आस्था और विश्वास के आधार पर अलग-अलग क़ानून हैं. हालांकि, देश की आज़ादी के बाद से समान नागरिक संहिता या यूनिफ़ॉर्म सिविल कोड (UCC) की मांग चलती रही है. इसके तहत इकलौता क़ानून होगा जिसमें किसी धर्म, लिंग और लैंगिक झुकाव की परवाह नहीं की जाएगी. यहां तक कि संविधान कहता है कि राष्ट्र को अपने नागरिकों को ऐसे क़ानून मुहैया कराने के 'प्रयास' करने चाहिए. लेकिन एक समान क़ानून की आलोचना देश का हिंदू बहुसंख्यक और मुस्लिम अल्पसंख्यक दोनों समाज करते रहे हैं. पीएम नरेंद्र मोदी के नेतृत्व वाली बीजेपी सरकार इस विचार को वापस उठा रही है. बीजेपी शासित उत्तर प्रदेश, हिमाचल प्रदेश और मध्य प्रदेश UCC पर चर्चा कर रहे हैं. आइए, समझते हैं कि समान नागरिक संहिता है क्या?
