Overall, I am very impressed with the AVIAN-X LCD Lookout Hen Turkey Decoy. The lifelike appearance of these decoys is truly astonishing and, at times, even fooled me.
The attention to detail is top-notch and they blend seamlessly into the natural surroundings. During our hunt, my cousin and I used both the hen and the jake decoys.
The combination of the two worked like a charm, luring in a curious Tom who couldnt resist but to attack the jake. This gave me the perfect opportunity to take a shot at the Tom while he was distracted.
However, I did find the inflation process to be a bit cumbersome. The deflated decoys have a small valve stem that needs to be pulled out before inflating.
I found it a bit tricky to seal my lips properly around the valve stem, as air tends to leak back at you if not done correctly. Additionally, accessing the valve stem can be quite difficult if the decoy is folded and deflated.
In terms of noise, inflating the decoys can be quite loud if youre not careful. To mitigate this, I chose to leave mine inflated and simply used the included decoy bag to carry it around.
My cousin, on the other hand, partially deflated his decoy to fit it in his pack and then fully inflated it when we set up. Both methods worked well, but Id suggest practicing inflating and deflating the decoys before taking them into the field.
As for the stake, I appreciate its foldability and how easily it slips into my vest. However, I do wish it had a built-in method to control the decoys movement.
The decoy tends to spin around in the wind, facing every direction possible. In order to limit its movement, I had to place sticks in the ground. The ability to deflate the decoys has been useful while traveling, but less relevant in the field.
This was my first hunt using the AVIAN-X LCD Lookout Hen Turkey Decoy and only time will tell if they hold up well. So far, I am pleased with their performance and durability, but I hope they can withstand the old mans trigger-happy tendencies.
