RAAF E7 Wedgetail to deploy to GERMANY + 100 BOXERS sold to GERMANY

Australia has inked an in-principle agreement with Germany for one of its largest defence export deals, promising to supply over 100 Australian-made Boxer armed carriers to the German military. The deal, worth over $1 billion, was signed amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine that has prompted European nations to bolster their military equipment.

The German defence contractor, Rheinmetall, initiated the production of these combat reconnaissance vehicles in Queensland, Australia, earlier this year. The manufacturing venture, set to create 1,000 jobs over ten years, was part of a contract to supply 211 such vehicles to the Australian military. The finalized deal is expected to significantly boost Australia's defence industry.

In a further attempt to bolster support for Ukraine, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced the deployment of a Royal Australian Air Force Wedgetail E-7A surveillance aircraft, alongside 100 defence personnel, to Germany. This aircraft will patrol European skies for six months starting October, specifically protecting key logistics hubs in Germany.

The aircraft, which can track airborne and maritime targets, will undertake long-haul missions to ensure the safe delivery of both military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, though it will avoid airspace over Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia. This commitment follows Australia's recent pledge of an additional $110 million assistance package to Ukraine, and coincides with a $1 billion defence export deal for Australian-made armoured vehicles to Germany.
