Are you really an Empath?

Not according to science you are not.
You may not be aware of this but up until the early 1990s no one referred to themselves as an empath. Why? Because it wasn't a thing.

Then in in the early 90s the TV show Star Trek The Next Generation became really popular and one of it's characters, Deanna Troi, an ALIEN, was an empath from the planet Betazoid.
They "borrowed" this term from a science fiction book from the 1950s where again, some aliens came to earth with the psychic ability to feel other peoples feelings and they were called "empaths"

So what's really happening? Are people genuinely feeling the feelings of others? Not likely according to science. What' is far more likely is that the person who thinks they are an empath is being triggered by the person they are with. The other person's story, problems, emotions are triggering unresolved issues in the listener.
This is well known in the field of psychology and counselling and it is why many psychologists/counsellors see therapists themselves because they are regularly getting triggered by their clients.

So if you are getting triggered by the negative feelings of others, instead of attributing this to some psychic powers, maybe consider seeing a therapist and explaining to them that you are responding badly to the negative feelings of others. They will be able to help you resolve this and you wiill start to have more emotional control.
