Lionel Messi revealed that he would have retired from representing Argentina at international football had he not won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Argentine playmaker talked to Argentina's TV Publica during his visit to Beijing in June, but aired only on Tuesday.

He has not ruled out playing 2026 World Cup, saying that he's now enjoying every moment at the national team.

Messi also spoke about his new challenge, playing at Inter Miami and MLS, securing that his "mentality will not change" during his time in the United States, "trying to give my best for myself and my new club".
