On a quest to save their forest, an old grimoire falls into the hands of the wizard Gargamel, who discovers the formula for a harmful plant called VILEAF. The seeds produced by this plant, known as VILETRAP, can capture Smurfs but pose a great danger to the forest as they are toxic, especially to the sarsaparilla fields. Papa Smurf summons some of his companions to help him find the ingredients needed to create a powerful antidote capable of curing all plants affected by VILEAF. Using the SMURFIZER, an invention by Handy Smurf, the Smurfs embark on an adventure to find the ingredients and free their fellow Smurfs.
