Fishing for Mahi but find the TUNA!

We started the day with intentions of finding Mahi between 500-700ft depth off the coast of key largo. We ran out the Tavernier Key cut into the Atlantic Ocean and rode out 7-12 miles until we reached 500ft depth.

Once we reached our target depth we began looking for signs of life. We found some seaweed, but I was looking for additional signs of life like bait schools and birds. After 20 minutes of riding around, we saw birds hitting bait schools in about 530 feet. You can see the location in the gps near the end of the video. So here we started trolling.

1 deep diver plug on a trolling reel with 380# mono. This we pull fairly close behind the boat. Maybe 30 meters. (got struck once)

1 black/red skirt. It had a little bubble-jet at the front of it to help it splash more and leave a better bubble trail. This was pulled on a spinning reel with 30 yards of #40mono leader and #50 power pro (we caught all the tuna on this)

2 sea witch skirts on fresh ballyhoo we caught on the previous trip. These were both pulled on shimano tld 25's trolling reels
(each skirt was hit, but no fish were hooked)

Sorry about the constant beeping noise in the video, we had a faulty 'low oil' alarm going off when in reality the boat had plenty of fresh oil. Will fix this issue before the next trip.

I had footage of how I rigged the balyhoo's and skirts but I had water on the gopro lens so the footage didn't come out well. I will make a seperate video in the future going over how I rigged these ballyhoo. There should be some great mahi action for the next video!
