How The Hell, On A Globe Earth, Can I See A 65' ( 19.812 meter) Lighthouse while still 250 miles (402.336 Kilometers) out to Sea?

Or,

How is it possible to be able to see the ships on the East Side of Africa From The West Side of Africa simply by looking down the Suez Canal?
It's rather funny how the Engineers and Architects that planned out and built it never took into account the shape of the Earth, since all they had to work with was flat...
Kind of like how my cousin that flies for a major airline never has to take the curve into account (nor does the auto-pilot), since there is no curve and can't inadvertently fly into outer space because someone forgot to nudge the nose down every [x] amount of miles to follow a non-existential curve.

If he can't answer those, perhaps he needs an easier question -

When was the last time you bothered to take that pair of binoculars on that plane ride to see that PLANE for yourself?
