Non-Aligned Nations Continue to Say No to US, NATO and EU | Seek Peace in Ukraine

Non-Aligned nations continue to stand firm in their foreign policy regarding the conflict in Ukraine and western sanctions against Russia. At the recent EU-CELAC Summit, they held the 27 NATO countries to seek peace in Ukraine. Having experienced western imperialism, they do not buy into the West's anti-Russian narrative.

Created in 2011, The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, CELAC is a regional forum that brings together all of Latin America and the Caribbean countries. The 33 countries of CELAC met with EU countries on July 17th & 18th 2023 in Brussels for the 3rd EU-CELAC Summit. The last meet was eight years ago. While the European Commission put a face of unity at the Summit, member states of CELAC:

1. continued refusal to condemn Russia's SMO in Ukraine
2. Spoke against sanctions on Russia
3. Called for an end to the conflict in Ukraine and for peace

Given current world events and the timing of the EU-CELAC the need for Europe mend relationships with Central and South America cannot be overlooked. Despite the promises of investment and the signature of several deals, the war in Ukraine plagued a summit between the EU and CELAC countries. There was no agreement on a statement regarding the conflict in Ukraine. Given the years of divisions and tensions between western countries and Central and South American countries, the EU will have to put in additional efforts. At the end of the Summit, the EU and CELAC countries remained very much divided when it came to the conflict in Ukraine and Anti Russia sentiment.
