Ferro Rod Test - What Can it Light on Fire?
Time to find out what a Ferrocerium rod will and won't light on fire. We've got the two cheapest ferrocerium rods I could find and some cotton balls, alcohol, propane, paper towels, petroleum jelly, and more! The results of what will and won't light on fire using them were a bit surprising.
For the record, Harbor Freight's product listing still insists that at least something involved in this product is Magnesium BUT apparently I wasn't aware that Ferrocerium is partially made with Magnesium. So I guess that's what they were referring to, not the block next to it. My ongoing theory is still that the block is an aluminum oxide knife sharpener but if you think the packaging or instructions are any help then you aren't very familiar with Harbor Freight.
