A New Spot on the Sun & A Southern Coronal Hole | Space Weather News 10.03.2019

A new sunspot has emerged on the Earth-facing disk and it has been firing a bunch of mini-solar flares, which could be causing just a tiny bit of noise on the dayside amateur radio bands. As of yet it hasnt launched any solar storms towards Earth, but we are watching it closely. We also have a coronal hole in the southern hemisphere that will be rotating into the Earth-strike zone within the next day or so. Aurora photographers at high latitudes might also be in for some fun as we could get sporadic aurora shows over the next few days from the coming fast solar wind. However, the chances of mid-latitude aurora is pretty fleeting. Despite this new activity, solar flux will remain in the high 60's with poor radio propagation in general on Earth's dayside and GPS reception should remain good, even at low latitudes. Learn the details of the new active region, what to expect with the coming fast solar wind, and see what else the Sun has in store.
