Striking SAG Actor: "I Feel Like I'm Being Robbed"

Actors are currently on strike outside major Hollywood studios due to the failure to reach an agreement with studios and streamers on a new three-year contract covering scripted TV and movies. The strike was called after members overwhelmingly voted in favor of it when their current contract expired and talks broke down. The key issues at stake include regulating the use of generative AI in entertainment, basic pay increases, and sharing in subscriber revenue from streaming projects. There is also an overlap with the ongoing writers strike, especially concerning AI and residual payments from streaming series. Streaming is a major concern as it has disrupted traditional compensation models for actors, with limited upfront money and residual payments on streaming services. The actors' union is asking to share in streaming revenue based on viewership data, but studios have been secretive about such information. While some individual actors have called for consumer boycotts of streaming services, the union has not officially endorsed such actions. CEOs Bob Iger (Disney) and David Zaslav (Warner Bros. Discovery) have faced backlash from striking members, with their names appearing on picket signs along with strong criticism for their handling of the situation.
