Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952) was an Indian yogi, spiritual teacher, and author who introduced millions of people to the teachings of meditation and Kriya Yoga. He was born as Mukunda Lal Ghosh in Gorakhpur, India, and from a young age, he displayed a deep interest in spirituality and a longing for direct experience of God.

In 1920, Yogananda founded the Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF), a worldwide spiritual organization dedicated to disseminating his teachings. He also established Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS), which carries his teachings in his home country. Through his teachings and organizations, Yogananda promoted the principles of yoga and meditation as a means to attain spiritual awakening and self-realization.

One of Yogananda's most well-known works is his autobiography, "Autobiography of a Yogi," first published in 1946. This book has been highly influential and has introduced countless readers to the philosophy and practices of yoga and meditation. It continues to be widely read and respected as a spiritual classic.

Paramahansa Yogananda played a significant role in bringing the ancient teachings of yoga to the Western world. He traveled extensively, giving lectures and establishing centers and ashrams in the United States. His teachings emphasized the unity of all religions and the importance of personal experience and direct communion with the Divine.

Yogananda passed away in 1952, but his teachings and organizations continue to thrive.
