The Neighborhood of the Stars. Why did so many silent screen and golden age of Hollywood stars flock to Whitley Heights? From Carole Lombard to Francis X. Bushman, from Louise Brooks to Barbara La Marr, they lived in Whitley Heights. Was it the Mediterranean style architecture, designed to keep the inhabitants cool in the southern California heat? Was it stunning views of the canyon, now occupied by Hollywood Highway? Whitley Heights residents attained historical marker status on many stars' homes in the 1980s. Villa Valentino was not among them due to being demolished in 1946.
