“In 1870, a group of determined scientists embarked upon an expedition to observe the mountain’s winter weather, hoping to improve forecasting knowledge. In 1932, the Mount Washington Observatory was built on the summit through a group interested in. On the afternoon of April 12, 1934, the Mount Washington Observatory recorded a windspeed of 231 miles per hour. The auto road starts at an elevation of 1,527-feet and climbs 4,618-feet in about 7.5-miles reaching the summit at 6,145-feet.”
