Taking a Stand for the People of Michigan (ft. Donna Brandenburg)

As Christians, we all know the story of David tending his flock when royal destiny came a knocking — and Samuel came anointing.

For Donna Brandenburg, who raises horses, running for Governor of Michigan was similarly a call from out of the blue.

“Someone said, ‘You should run for Governor,’” Brandenburg recounted. “I prayed about it and said, ‘Me?’ I’ve never been in politics. I’ve always hated it. I’m an equal opportunity political hater because I always thought that they’re all a bunch of liars, cheats, and thieves.”

Certainly, from Michigan’s Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, Brandenburg’s seen that kind of abusive political leadership: needlessly wearing down good people who have modest and just demands, such as the freedom to simply go to work. There came a point, however, watching the people of Michigan struggling under oppressive Covid mandates that she just had to stand up.

“Watching Michigan decline so badly and seeing how many people were really struggling — that were struggling through all of the unconstitutional lockdowns that Gretchen Whitmer and her little cronies had in place… People were really hurting.” Brandenburg said. “They were out of jobs; they were alone; they were isolated. The lasting mass psychosis that’s happened from this and the hurting population we have is just incredible.”

With any comparison, there are always limitations: Brandenburg wants to serve as Governor of Michigan — not King of Israel. But the reality is, she has something of the fighting spirit of David. When asked about her courage quotient, she gave a simple answer.

“I raise horses,” Brandenburg said with a smile. “And I can take a kick from a half-ton animal and no one in politics makes me afraid.”
