Initially, politics didn’t register with Dennis Asensio as a primary focus point. As a young man in the Philippines studying medicine, he had other priorities. But that started to change when he saw the political overreach of the Ferdinand Marcos regime, which was a communist dictatorship.

After emigrating to the United States, he became more politically aware and began to realize that he was a true conservative.

“When I was in the United States, I realized how important conservatism was,” Asensio said. “I knew from my experience here that I was a conservative — the closer you are to adhering to the Constitution, that’s the best way to avoid what happened in the Philippines.”
