Albino Bull Moose

It has to be incredible living in Alaska, even if you do live on a remote location. One Alaskan has the incredible honor to spot an albino Bull Moose, across a lake in the Susitna river valley. Alaska native Roger Bickleman shot this footage in interior Alaska, where we can clearly see the rare animal grazing along the river bank.

"I filmed this albino moose a few years back here in Alaska along the lake edge near my cabin. I live in the remote bush alone. The only way in and out is by bush plane." says Roger.

The director of the Center for Human Genetics at the University of Wisconsin and an expert on albinism, Murray Brilliant, says that while albinism can occur in just about every kind of animal, though the absence of pigmentation varies greatly among individuals in any species. Another expert says that, even though albinism is a rare condition, it is far less uncommon in Alaska.

“Albino and/or leucistic moose occasionally turn up in Alaska, and there have been several sightings over the years in Interior Alaska, particularly," said Ken Marsh, a spokesman with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, for the National Post.
