A children's copybook ends up in Mr. Holiday's hands containing a bizarre drawing captioned "The Sad Night."

Box 13 starred Alan Ladd as Dan Holiday, a newspaperman turned mystery novelist who placed an ad in the Star-Times that said "Adventure wanted, will go anywhere, do anything- write Box 13, Star-Times." The show follows his adventures as he responds to individual letters.
