Setting Things in Order Pt. 2 - I Chron. 26-27

Last week we began our study in chpts. 23-25 discussing the fact that God is a God of order. We discussed I Cor. 14:33, which tells us that "God is not the author of confusion," and I Cor. 14:40, which reminds us to do all things "decently and in order." The point was that Jehovah is an orderly God. Order and structure are his ways. More importantly, we need that order and structure in our own lives because, left to our own devices, we tend toward disorder, chaos, and sin.

As David is making preparations for the temple construction project, he is also making preparations to restore the old worship. Remember that it had been pretty much abandoned since before king Saul, when Israel lost the ark of the covenant to the Philistines. David went and retrieved that ark. He brought it back to Jerusalem. And now, with the temple construction, he aims to re-institute the worship that God had given Aaron and Moses. Order and structure define that worship.

So last week we saw David organizing the Levites into courses. We saw the Levites appointed to the work of the temple. We saw the divisions of the priests and worship leaders. Today we'll look at the porters, the Levites set over the treasures, Levites chosen as administrators and military leaders throughout Israel. As we go through this, remember one phrase: God is a God of order.
