Muk's Pokemon Ruby Pokedex entry:
From Muk's body seeps a foul fluid that gives off a nose-bendingly horrible stench. Just one drop of this Pokémon's body fluid can turn a pool stagnant and rancid.

That might explain why this jungle is so polluted.

Side note: I tweaked some video settings on the game footage to see if I can up the quality a tad more. I don't know if you'll notice much of a difference though, but I'm aiming to get it the best I can with the equipment I have.
