All right, so I'm gonna buckle down this year. In general, I want to see what I can build, and what I can do. I've wanted to see this for the longest time, but I need to put in the work I've never done before. Yeah, no, so I'm gonna try this out and see what happens.
I believe this will provide valuable content to anyone starting out, whether it's making a YouTube channel, starting a Twitch stream, or even launching a podcast. It's not just about learning something specific, but also gaining insights into other people's thoughts and experiences to help you grow your content creation journey.
One of my goals for this year is to pursue Google certificates in digital marketing and e-commerce. These courses have been beneficial in understanding how to build a brand, which I believe is crucial in today's YouTube landscape. Unlike a decade ago, establishing a presence requires creating a brand that resonates with people.
Recently, I came across an interesting subreddit discussion that I'd like to share. It revolves around the observation that larger channels in my niche continue to receive views on videos uploaded months ago, without doing anything extraordinary. Their thumbnails are basic, sometimes even using screenshots, and their titles and descriptions lack keyword optimization. They focus more on creating content and rely on their large subscriber base, benefiting from YouTube's algorithm that promotes their videos to a wide audience.
While it's true that the algorithm favors bigger channels, it's important to note that many of these creators have put in substantial effort and time to reach their current status. They may also invest in advertisements, which can give them an additional boost. Nonetheless, for smaller creators, it may seem disheartening, as the algorithm doesn't prioritize their growth.
Furthermore, most of the tips and tricks to grow on YouTube cater to newcomers, often presented in clickbait videos. These generic strategies might be helpful for absolute beginners, but for creators like us who have been trying for years without much success, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. It's crucial to find your unique approach, something that sets you apart and resonates with your audience.
Rather than simply niching down, it's more about discovering what you can excel at and pour your passion into. Whether it's producing highly researched and detailed content or showcasing your genuine enthusiasm for a particular subject, finding your own style is key. Additionally, seeking feedback from your audience and understanding what they want to see can guide your content creation journey.
It's important to recognize that the algorithm is not designed to support smaller creators. However, instead of being discouraged, we can focus on finding ways to make our content more clickable and engaging. Visual hooks in thumbnails and compelling titles can help attract viewers. Retention rate is also essential, so delivering quality content that keeps people engaged is crucial.
So, let's not be misled by those who blame falling viewership solely on clickable thumbnails or the need to make better content. It's about understanding the importance of visual hooks, finding your unique approach, and continuously improving your content based on audience feedback.
In conclusion, growing on YouTube as a smaller creator can be challenging, but it's not impossible. By embracing your uniqueness, honing your content creation skills, and adapting to the ever-changing platform, you can carve your path to success. Remember, there's no magic formula or shortcut, but with perseverance, creativity, and a genuine passion for what you do, you can thrive as a content creator.
