Explosion sound, flash of light captured on CCTV during drone attack on Moscow City office building

The sound of an explosion and a flash of light were captured on CCTV footage at a health and beauty studio located in the Moscow City area, where an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crashed on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, the Russian Defence Ministry said it had foiled an 'attempted terrorist attack by the Kiev regime' by UAVs on facilities in Moscow and the Moscow region.

"Two Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed in the air by air defence means over the territory of Odintsovo and Naro-Fominsk districts of Moscow region. Another drone was suppressed by means of electronic warfare and, having lost control, crashed on the territory of the Moscow City’s non-residential building complex," the ministry said.

Mayor Sergei Sobyanin added that one UAV 'flew into the same tower in the City as last time'. As a result, windows across 150 square metres of the 21st floor were broken, and there was no information about any casualties.

Daria Levchenko, adviser to the Minister of Economic Development, said that now 'experts are assessing the damage and the state of the infrastructure for the safety of people in the building'.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova compared it to the September 11 attacks in the US in a TV interview.

"The September 11, the Twin Towers. Colossal number of victims, but the methodology is the same. Moscow City is a civilian facility that not only contains offices, a business centre, but also residential premises, a large number of residential flats, as well as civilian administrative buildings that have nothing to do with the military," Zakharova said.
