Deuteronomy 8 With commentary by Rabbi: Patrick McGuire (Published Oct. 26, 2016)

Elohim is reminding the people to obey all His commandments. If we are obedient, He says they will live and multiply and possess this land that was promised to their forefathers.

He reminds us that this land was promised to their forefathers. If He promised it to them, why didn't they get it? The fact is, Elohim owed those people nothing. He delivered them from bondage in Egypt through no merit of their own. He promised them the most beautiful, fertile, and abundant land in the world.

But the people put Elohim to the test ten times (Num. 14:22-23). They saw His glory and His signs and they still did not repent. Sadly enough, there is no amount of signs and wonders that will make most people be faithful to Elohim and His ways. When Yeshua told the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, the rich man wanted a miraculous sign to be given to his five brothers in order that they might repent. But he was told that if they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, then no miraculous sign would help them (Luke 16:19-31).
