It is dire that we do NOT teach tithing (materially) under the New Covenant
One argument for tithing today is that Jesus told the Pharisees that they were right to be tithing.
Matthew 8:4
"And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."
So since Jesus told someone to present an offering to priests according to the law of Moses, should we be doing that too? Of course not. The law of tithing applied BEFORE Jesus ascended to be the true and final High Priest in Heaven.
Malachi 3:8
8 “Would anyone rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings.
Neglecting offerings also amounted to robbing God, along with tithes. Of course these BOTH reference Old Testament commands, as they were handled by High Priests as intercessors which gave weight to the statement of God being robbed of what was due Him in both tithes and offerings as the law commanded.
The current and final High Priest is Jesus, and just as we don't observe Old Testament offerings as described in the law of Moses, tithes also do not apply as of Christ's resurrection as the High Priest.
The Galatians could not have said something to Paul like: "no no, we didn't mean to obligate ourselves to obey the whole law and renounce the value of Jesus' sacrifice." Paul is saying to the Galatians, that's inevitably what you're saying by ceremonial circumcision whether you think you are or not.
We know that the Galatians potentially thought such a thing because Paul had to inform them:
Galatians 5:2-4
Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. 3 And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. 4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.
One comes with the other, contrary to what the Galatians potentially thought. They could not come back to Paul saying something like "don't worry Paul, that's not what we meant to express by getting circumcised." They invoked the Old Covenant circumcision, so Paul was enlightening them to the sentiment that came along with it.
In the exact same way, when someone tells you to pay tithes to them on Earth, invoking the law, they cannot do that without effectively declaring that they are the current pre-Christ High Priest collecting tithes as intercessors of God instead of the true High Priest which is Christ ever since His ascension. Like the Galatians, they can't go saying that's not what they meant, as that's what tithing represented.
