In 1939, America refused entry to a ship filled with over 900 Jewish refugees escaping the start of World War II in Europe.

After getting their visas revoked in Cuba, the ship moved towards America where the U.N. founder Cordell Hull advised Roosevelt to reject the SS St. Louis’s entry.
