On July 26th, President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger was detained by the leader of his presidential guard. The coup was the latest in a series of military takeovers in West Africa and threatens to further undermine the region's democratic gains. Mvemba Phezo Dizolele, director of the Africa Program at CSIS, discusses what the coup will mean for the region and for countries including the United States, France, and Russia.
